2. Reducing exposure and risk

By proactively understanding accessibility standards, language considerations, and access rights, we lower the risk of legal action against our organization.

With digital platforms becoming integral to modern society, global governments have authorized policies to enforce accessibility and inclusion of diverse audiences.

In the U.S and parts of Canada, companies that fail to make their platforms accessible to diverse audiences, especially those with disabilities, risk legal action under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, respectively, with further legislation being developed across Canada and the globe.

Establishing practices for better serving all customers helps us meet and exceed the standards of current and forthcoming legislation, thereby:

  1. Reducing legal risk by being proactive about understanding accessibility standards, language considerations, and access rights.
  2. Reducing the risk of unintentionally alienating parts of our market or setting off a public relations (PR) challenge by being more aware of market expectations and more intentional about serving the full spectrum of your market.
